RESIDENTIAL CONSTRUCTION

Why Concrete?...Because it is simply a better way to build

The Cement Council of Texas is dedicated to providing a superior alternative to residential wood frame construction, we are all aware of the cost of lumber increasing and its availability and quality decreasing.

Families that have used ICFs to build their homes, continue to tell us that this is the only material they would ever use again. . .and that they cannot believe more people do not know about this alternative building material! This is one of the reasons we have taken on part of the responsibility to "get the word out" concerning this impressive product.

When asked to make out their "wish list" today's homebuyers listed the following in order of importance. . .

  • More Space
  • Better Location
  • Newer Home
  • More Amenities
  • Better Quality
  • Less Maintenance
  • Better Neighborhood
  • More Energy Efficient
  • Possible "down-sizing"

Insulating Concrete Forms address many of your desires and requirements! It appears many of us have forgotten the energy crisis of the 1970's. . .quite possibly with the reliance on foreign oil. . .we should all remember those lessons. PLUS, if we are interested in more space. . .let's get it and pay less for our heating and cooling expense!

Environmental concerns about lumber continue to make concrete even more attractive than its usual confidence and reliability would command. Each time a home is built with wood, twenty trees go to the construction of floors and walls, thirteen go to the roof, and five are used in the interior.

Concrete is the oldest reliable construction material still available. When used to build exterior walls with insulating concrete forms in residences, it offers protection from fire, heavy windstorms, and natural disasters (Texas hurricanes and tornadoes), while offering superior noise resistance and maximizing energy efficiency. The mass of the concrete stores heat so that the interior of a home is held at a constant cool temperature, substantially reducing cooling and heating costs.

In addition, it is also resistant to pests and termites (a termite or pest cannot eat through four-six inches of concrete).
